Benjamin Shaw writes songs with the kind of lines that make you go 'damn, that's a good line' even if you couldn't really explain exactly why it is such a good line (for example 'there's a fine line between talented and me' - i can't explain why, but there is something very brilliant about it). he's probably one of of my personal favourite discoveries that i've made through myspace and i'm not alone in my appreciation of his sounds. Nic Dalton from the Lemonheads says he's "as good as Bill Smog and that Palace Brothers guy" and Jack Hayter from Hefner describes his recent release as being "as magnificent at the end of the 3rd listen as it was at the start of the first". but what about the man behind Benjamin Shaw (if that is even his real name)?

filled out his questionnaire after some of the others and was the opposite of chuffed (miffed) to see some of his possible top 5 were taken.
What are you favourite albums of 2009?
Clues - Clues (delightful in all ways)
Nosferatu D2 - We're Gonna Walk Around This City With Our Headphones on to Block Out the Noise (labelmates, but quite astoundingly beautiful and wordy)
Extradition Order - Since the Bomb Dropped (a lovely bloody racket)
Joseph McNulty - Week (quite special and my new favourite drone-pop)

Your biggest musical inspirations (or things that inspire your writing) Each and every eye-gouging, skin-tearing, soul-hoovering minute of my ever increasing career as a Customer Service Executive. And my wife. She's pretty good. At things.
What do you play and record with? A rather clichéd, small, kid's nylon string guitar, and a laptop and wee box I can plug things into. It's delightful and my friend.
Favourite books/movies

What is one song (or name a few) that you never seem to get tired of, no matter how many times you listen to it?
'Mr Blue Sky' - ELO
Artist that you think more people should know about. London band, Fighting Kites. There is noise and loops and beeps and boops, and lots and lots of beauty. And their music can be downloaded for free at http://www.last.fm/music/Fighting+Kites
You can only have one thing for the rest of your life, which do you chose: cigarttes, coffee, wine, beer or ketchup? An awful question, and which one shouldn't have to answer. For what is a glass of red in the right hand without an espresso in the left? Baloney*, is what it is, and I'm not answering.
*Editor's note: we will record Ben's answer as his 'one thing he could not live without' to be baloney, the sandwich meat.
he would have shared more but he had "to hang the washing out now. It is cold. It will never dry for the morning." to get to know ben even better than our very involved questionairre, i highly recommend you seek him out on the the following corners of the web.

or take a seat and listen to some of this artists' fine music right here on our site
